Death threats

It has been reported that Boston Celtic guard Tony Allen had received death threats before Game 3 of his series with the Chicago Bulls. According to the Boston Globe, Allen, a Chicago native, had received threats in Chicago for quite some time. "Is that what you're going to write about? Is that what you're going to write about?" Allen said when asked about the threats, then walked away, the Globe reported. In April 2007, Allen was found not guilty of aggravated battery in a Chicago court. That charge was connected to a fight in August 2005 outside a Chicago restaurant.

Chicago has also been the scene of several NBA robberies as of late including Antoine Walker and New York Knick Eddy Curry. Recently Curry's ex-girlfriend and mother of his two children, Nova Henry, was slain along with her 9 month old daughter. Both were said to be murdered in front of Henry and Curry's 3 year old son. Henry claimed the 9 month old daughter to be Curry's, which he denied.

Does this make it alright for athletes to carry weapons? Should athletes carry weapons? The NBA hasn't had to deal with as many gun issues as the NFL, but where should the line be drawn for athletes protecting themselves and their family?
